1.) How will I be able to decide what to sign up for?
Here you will find a description of most of the ministries at St. Michael the Archangel parish. If you read the descriptions of those ministries that interest you, you will gain an understanding of what the position would entail and how much time you might expect to devote to the activity.
2.) Is everything at Saint Michael the Archangel a 'ministry'?
We consider all activities at St. Michael the Archangel to be a ministry of some kind. Some roles, such as Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, or Lector, are traditional ministiries. We believe that participating in such activities such as working in the kitchen, working on the church grounds, or working at special celebrations can also be forms of ministry in service to the parish community.
3.) Can I sign up for more than one ministry?
Be a good steward of your time. Many parishioners are already involved in more than one ministry. For example, someone could be a lector, a comittee member, and a volunteer worker at special church celebrations. Openings exist in the majority of parish ministries, and we seek to place as many parishioners as possible in ministries in which they express an interest.
4.) How will I know that my offer to become involved has been reviewed by someone?
A few weeks after you have received a Ministry Comittment Card, or submitted an application here, you should receive an acknolwedgement by mail and a phone call from a Ministry Coordinator of the group(s) you indicated interest in.
5.) What if I do not hear from anyone concerning a comittment I make?
The coordinators will make a concerted effort to reach you by phone regarding your interest. If there is no answer, a messag ewill be left if you have an answering marchine or voicemail system requesting a return phone call. If after two weeks you have not received a return phone call, and you are still interested in being placed in a ministry, please contact the parish office.
6.) There are several members in my family who would like to sign up for ministries. Do we each need to complete an individual comittment request?
Yes; it can be obtained in the parish office during business hours, or can be submitted online here.
7.) When can a comittment be made for a ministry?
We specifically seek comittments each year on Comittment Sunday. However, a parishioner can express an interest in a ministry at any time by contacting the parish office or submitting an online request here.
8.) My schedule does not permit me to attend many meetings. Is there something I could do at home?
There are a number of activities that could be done in your home, such as making phone calls, desktop publishing, editing, etc. When you receive a call from a coordinator, ask which ministries have activities that can be accomplished at home.
9.) I am already involved in activities at St. Michael the Archangel parish. I cannot take on any additional responsibilities at this time. Should I still fill out a form?
Yes, please fill out a form. There is a place on the form where you can indicate your current involvement. This helps us maintain our records of our current volunteers.
10.) Am I expected to giveall of my time and talent to the Church?
The mission of our comittment is to be a blessing to the community at large. You may be already using your time and talent by volunteering in a number of ways beyond Parish life. It is your perogative to determine how you will divide your time.
11.) What if I am not sure what I might want to become involved in, and just want more information?
To obtain more information on the ministries available, please contact the Parish Office or send an e-mail to [email protected].
12.) What if I forget what I signed up for?
We encourage you to document the ministries that you volunteer for, and those you wish to sign up for on Comittment Sunday. You may use the booklet you receive on Comittment Sunday to keep track of these.
